Hi kids. Some of you will remember this. It was well received and I was encouraged to publish it. So I shopped it around to about 50 magazines and some other print vehicles, but no takers. So here it is for my friends,
Mother of Exiles
She’s someone dear to me
She’s a French girl originally.
When I see her standing there in her robe
with the morning light pouring off of her shoulders
as she looks out across the harbor,
I can’t help but love and embrace all that she stands for.
She’s older than me, but that’s of no matter.
In the eyes of those that have known her, she is ageless.
I love her and would gladly give my life for her without hesitation.
She means more to me than any woman ever has.
She gives me the strength and courage to stand up and shout my convictions.
She gives me the freedom to think as I please and to speak out about my beliefs.
To those meeting her for the first time,
she is welcoming and warm like seeing an old friend.
She stands there in the harbor waving at the boats coming and going.
She carries with her a promise to care for strays and outcasts.
All she expects in return
is that your life is better than it was before you met her.
Those that call her names have the right.
She doesn’t mind. She stands tall through it all.
She is too precious to be forgotten.
We should hold her in front of us daily and say
I’m free to think and say as I please!
My ancestors couldn’t,
but I can and my children will.
Let freedom ring out from her stoic face.
Let the light of her torch shine forever on us.
She is Liberty
Have a happy 4th my friends.
